Founded in 1661, Mamaroneck is one of Westchester’s oldest settlements. The town is made up of two villages, Larchmont and the Village of Mamaroneck as well as a large Unincorporated Area. Larchmont, on the Long Island Sound, was a popular summer resort for families in the 1890s as well as a haven for those fleeing the city and polio and flu epidemics. Today, Mamaroneck has a population of around 30,000. With easy access to the city via Metro North and abundant water views, the town is very popular with families of commuters.

As for recreation, the town offers a wide variety of programs for both children and adults including camps, golf, swimming, hockey, ice skating and tennis. Hommocks Park has an Olympic sized pool and a large ice rink. Opened in 1923, the Winged Foot Golf Club has hosted many PGA championships and the 2006 US Open. An interesting tidbit, written for a school play by a student’s lyricist father, the song “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” had its debut in Mamaroneck.
