Located in Bergen County, Tenafly’s unique name is derived from the early-modern Dutch phrase "Tiene Vly" or "Ten Swamps" given to the area by settlers in 1688. Known for its picturesque hills, valleys and trees which determined the development of the area, Tenefly borders the Palisades and overlooks the Hudson. With a population of approximately 15,000, this well-heeled area has had its share of famous residents over the years, going back to suffragette Elizabeth Cady Stanton and including athletes like Yogi Berra and Don Mattingly; actors like Oscar winners, Mira Sorvino and Ed Harris and TV stars like Hope David and Tate Donavan.

For recreation, visit the Tenafly Nature Center which features a number of trails which are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year for hiking, snow-shoeing and/or cross-country skiing - depending on the season, of course.
